Nominations

The nominations for the 2023 ProPrint Awards opened on Monday 8 May 2023, 9am, nominations closed on Friday 21 July 2023, and submissions closed Monday 21 August 2023, 5pm.

Winners were announced at the ProPrint Awards on Friday 3 November 2023 at Shangri-La Sydney and will be published in the December issue of ProPrint.

Entries are open to those working in the Australian printing industry. It is free to nominate and enter.

ProPrint Awards Categories

The Award categories include:

Printer 50 – The top 20 nominated industry leaders will be ranked in this 100% peer-voted award – everyone else will be acknowledged in alphabetical order at the ProPrint Awards in Sydney in November and in the December issue of ProPrint magazine. You can nominate more than one person and it is also possible to have more than one Printer 50 nominee from the same company. Self-nominations are also accepted. This is a peer-voted award so all Printer 50 nominees will have the opportunity to judge. The results will be verified by an external auditor.

CHANGES TO PRINTER 50 CATEGORY NOMINATIONS
The Printer 50 category only accepts nominations for individuals who are printers or work for a printing organisation. If you represent or work for an association, service provider, lobby group, trade show organiser as well as equipment and consumable suppliers, please nominate under the Supplier 50 category.

Emerging 50 – This category recognises the industry’s rising stars. Emerging 50 nominees include graphic designers, prepress operators, production assistants, postpress supervisors and finishing specialists as well as employees responsible for distribution, sales, administration and account management with approximately five years or less experience working in the industry. Recipients of the Emerging 50 will be judged on the quality and the detail provided within their submission and the supplementary materials provided. It is possible to nominate more than one person and it is also possible to have more than one Emerging 50 recipient from the same company. Self-nominations are accepted.

All Emerging 50 recipients will be acknowledged in alphabetical order at the ProPrint Awards in Sydney in November and in the December issue of ProPrint magazine.

Supplier 50 – This category recognises those working for supplier companies who go over and above to help print businesses flourish. Supplier 50 recipients will be judged on the quality of the award submission based on their achievements over the last 12 months. There is no overall winner of the Supplier 50 – all recipients will be acknowledged in alphabetical order at the ProPrint Awards in Sydney in November and in the December issue of ProPrint magazine. It is possible to nominate more than one person and it is also possible to have more than one Supplier 50 nominee from the same company. Self-nominations are accepted.

Industry Achievement Award – This exclusive award honours the work of an Outstanding Achiever in Print – someone who has dedicated their life to the industry. The Top 10 Printer 50 2022 winners and our platinum sponsor, Durst, will decide who deserves this exclusive honour.

Guidelines

Printer 50

Nominators (the person doing the nominating) and nominees (the person nominated) are required to submit their name and contact details in the nomination portal. Self-nominations are also accepted for this Award.

All nominees will be asked to accept their nomination. Thereafter they will be required to supply a headshot photograph, a brief biography and responses to the following two questions in up to 750 words each:

  1. How do you describe yourself against the criteria?
    • Committed to lifting print’s profile
    • Prepared to help other printers
    • Passionate about environmental sustainability
    • Willing to move their business forward
  2. Major personal and professional achievements over the last 12 months.

You can also upload YouTube links or other supporting documents (maximum of 1) to support your submission.

Emerging 50

All nominees will be asked to accept their nomination. Recipients of the Emerging 50 will be judged on the quality and the detail provided within their submission and the supplementary materials provided. It is possible to nominate more than one person and it is also possible to have more than one Emerging 50 recipient from the same company.

Supplier 50

Nominators (the person doing the nominating) and nominees (the person nominated) are required to submit their name and contact details in the nomination portal. Self-nominations are also accepted for this award.

All nominees will be asked to accept their nomination. Thereafter they will be asked to explain in up to 750 words how they meet the pre-set criteria as per below:

  • Committed to providing quality service and advice
  • Collaborative work ethic to find the best solution
  • Proven record of going above and beyond to get the job done

They will also be asked to submit up to 750 words on their personal and professional industry achievements in 2023.

Supplier 50 recipients will be judged on the quality of the award submission based on their achievements over the last 12 months.

Industry Achievement Award

Nominators (the person doing the nominating) and nominees (the person nominated) are required to submit their name and contact details in the nomination portal. Self-nominations are accepted for this Award.

All nominees will be contacted by a member of the ProPrint team to advise of their nomination and seek acceptance. They will also receive an email advising they have been nominated.

The nominee will then be asked to respond to a few questions from the pre-set criteria and this information, once verified and approved by the nominee, will be used by a panel of judges (2022 Printer 50 Top Ten winners and platinum sponsor Durst) to determine the winner.

The winner will have the opportunity to address the ProPrint Awards and speak about their career.

Thereafter they will be commemorated annually in the ProPrint Award Lifetime Achievement Award honour roll.

The questions they will be asked are:

  • Industry experience over the past 25 years industry
  • Contributions to industry for example board representations
  • Role in improving the industry
  • Support of print even if they have retired or have left the industry
  • Major lifetime personal and professional achievements

The ProPrint Awards will not publish the identity of the nominator, whether self-nominated or nominated by others in print or online, however you can choose to let a nominee know that you have nominated them during the nomination process. 

Judging Process

Printer 50

Nominations for the Printer 50 close Friday 21 July 2023. With submissions closing Monday 21 August 2023.

This is a peer-voted award. Printer 50 nominees who meet the entrance criteria are invited to become judges and have the opportunity to judge once submissions close before the results are externally audited. The judging process is conducted online and involves judges ranking their Top 20 nominees against a set criteria.

Industry Achievement Award

Nominations for the Industry Achievement Award close Friday 21 July 2023. With submissions closing Monday 21 August 2023.

Once nominations close, all nominees are contacted and advised of their nomination and are offered the opportunity to accept their nomination.

They will be asked to respond to a pre-set criteria.

This information will be compiled and forwarded to a judging panel made up of the 2022 Printer 50 Top Ten and platinum sponsor, Durst.

Each of the five questions asked will be scored at 20%.
The person with the highest score wins.

 

Notes:

Emerging 50 and Supplier 50 recipients will be judged on the quality of the award submission based on their achievements over the last 12 months. There is no overall winner of the Emerging 50 and Supplier 50 – all recipients will be acknowledged in alphabetical order.

The Industry Achievement Award Winner will be judged by The Top 10 Printer 50 2022 winners and our platinum sponsor, Durst, will decide who deserves this exclusive honour.

Once the judging for the Printer 50 is completed an external auditor will review the scores to ensure validity.

The judges’ decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.

All results will be published in print in the December issue of ProPrint and announced at the ProPrint Awards function on Friday 3 November from 6.45pm at Shangri-La Sydney.
