Nominations

The nominations for the 2021 ProPrint Awards will open on Monday July 26 and close on Friday August 27.

Submissions for the Power 50, Emerging 50 Mentorship Prize and Industry Achievement Award will close on Friday September 10 so judging can take place.

Winners will be announced at the ProPrint Awards on Friday November 26 at the Shangri-la Hotel in Sydney and published in the December issue of ProPrint.

Entries are open to those working in the Australian printing industry. It is free to nominate and enter.

ProPrint Awards Categories

The Award categories include:

Power 50 – The top 20 nominated industry leaders will be ranked in this 100% peer-voted award – everyone else will be acknowledged in alphabetical order at the ProPrint Awards in Sydney in November and in the December issue of ProPrint magazine. You can nominate more than one person and it is also possible to have more than one Power 50 nominee from the same company. Self nominations are also accepted. This is a peer-voted award so all nominees will have the opportunity to judge. The results will be verified by an external auditor.

Emerging 50 – This category recognises the industry’s rising stars. Emerging 50 nominees include graphic designers, prepress operators, production assistants, postpress supervisors and finishing specialists as well as employees responsible for distribution, sales, administration and account management with approximately five years or less experience working in the industry. Recipients of the Emerging 50 will be judged on the quality and the detail provided within their submission and the supplementary materials provided. It is possible to nominate more than one person and it is also possible to have more than one Emerging 50 recipient from the same company. Self nominations are accepted.

Emerging 50 nominees also have the opportunity to apply for a 12-month mentorship prize in partnership with The Real Media Collective which includes a $1000 voucher for a short course with the Australian Institute of Management (AIM). Other inclusions in the mentorship prize are complimentary entry in The Real Media Awards ‘Best Emerging Talent’ category and access to all The Real Media Collective events, awards and industry sessions. The Mentorship prize is judged by an industry panel.  

All Emerging 50 recipients will be acknowledged in alphabetical order at the ProPrint Awards in Sydney in November and in the December issue of ProPrint magazine.

Supplier 50 – This category recognises those working for supplier companies who go over and above to help print businesses flourish. Supplier 50 recipients will be judged on the quality of the award submission based on their achievements over the last 12 months. There is no overall winner of the Supplier 50 – all recipients will be acknowledged in alphabetical order at the ProPrint Awards in Sydney in November and in the December issue of ProPrint magazine. It is possible to nominate more than one person and it is also possible to have more than one Supplier 50 nominee from the same company. Self nominations are accepted.

Industry Achievement Award – The Industry Achievement Award is an inaugural award recognising an Outstanding Achiever in Print. This exclusive award honours the work of an Outstanding Achiever in Print – someone who has dedicated their life to the industry. The Top 10 Power 50 2020 representatives and our platinum sponsor, Durst, will decide who deserves this exclusive honour.

Guidelines

Power 50

Nominators (the person doing the nominating) and nominees (the person nominated) are required to submit their name and contact details in the nomination portal.

All nominees will be asked to accept their nomination. Thereafter they will be required to supply a headshot photograph, a brief biography and responses to the following two questions in up to 300 words each:

  1. How do you describe yourself against the criteria?
    • Committed to lifting print’s profile
    • Prepared to help other printers
    • Passionate about environmental sustainability
    • Willing to move their business forward
  2. Major personal and professional achievements over the last 12 months.

You can also upload YouTube links or other supporting documents (maximum of 2) to support your submission.

Emerging 50

Nominators (the person doing the nominating) and nominees (the person nominated) are required to submit their name and contact details in the nomination portal.

All nominees will be asked to accept their nomination. Recipients of the Emerging 50 will be judged on the quality and the detail provided within their submission and the supplementary materials provided. It is possible to nominate more than one person and it is also possible to have more than one Emerging 50 recipient from the same company. Self nominations are accepted.They also have the opportunity to enter the draw to win a 12-month mentorship prize in partnership with The Real Media Collective.

To enter the draw for the mentorship prize they must supply a reference from their line manager and answer the following questions in written (100 words per question) or video form.

  1. How do you describe yourself against the criteria?
    • Enthusiastic about their work
    • Willing to learn and progress through the print industry
    • Eager to pass on their knowledge to those around them
  1. What are you most passionate about with regards to the industry?
  2. What is leadership and how do you define a good leader?

Nominees have approximately five years or less industry experience.

A panel of industry judges will review Emerging 50 mentorship prize applications to decide on the winner.

Supplier 50

Nominators (the person doing the nominating) and nominees (the person nominated) are required to submit their name and contact details in the nomination portal.

All nominees will be asked to accept their nomination. Thereafter they will be asked to explain in 300 words how they meet the pre-set criteria as per below:

  • Committed to providing quality service and advice
  • Collaborative work ethic to find the best solution
  • Proven record of going above and beyond to get the job done

They will also be asked to submit 150 words on their personal and professional industry achievements in 2021.

Supplier 50 recipients will be judged on the quality of the award submission based on their achievements over the last 12 months. 

Industry Achievement Award

Nominators (the person doing the nominating) and nominees (the person nominated) are required to submit their name and contact details in the nomination portal.

All nominees will be contacted by a member of the ProPrint team to advise of their nomination and seek acceptance. They will also receive an email advising they have been nominated.

The nominee will then be asked to respond to a few questions from the pre-set criteria and this information, once verified and approved by the nominee, will be used by a panel of judges (2020 Power 50 Top Ten winners and platinum sponsor Durst) to determine the winner.

The winner will have the opportunity to address the ProPrint Awards and speak about their career.

Thereafter they will be commemorated annually in the ProPrint Award Lifetime Achievement Award honour roll.

The questions they will be asked about:

  • Industry experience over the past 25 years industry
  • Contributions to industry for example board representations
  • Role in improving the industry
  • Support of print even if they have retired or have left the industry
  • Major lifetime personal and professional achievements 

 

Judging Process

Power 50

Nominations for the Power 50 close.

The judging panel – made up of all nominees – will review the responses to the questions and score each submission to determine the top 20 nominees (the remainder will be listed alphabetically) through the ProPrint Awards online portal.

The questions include responses to a pre-set criteria and significant achievements over the last 12 months. The criteria question is worth 80% and the annual highlights question is worth 20%.

Emerging 50 Mentorship Prize

All nominees for the Emerging 50 have the opportunity to enter to win a 12-month mentorship prize. This is the only component of the Emerging 50 award that is judged.

Entries for the nomination prize close.

A panel of industry judges will be given access to each entrant’s responses. This includes three industry-related questions and supplied reference from a line manager or supervisor.

Each question is worth 25% with the reference accounting for the final 25%.

Judges will score the nominee’s entry and score accordingly.

The person with the highest score wins.

An average will be given to any entrant who is unable to be judged due to the judge being an employee of the company the entrant works for.

Industry Achievement Award

Nominations close and all nominees are contacted to advise of their nomination and ensure they have accepted the nomination.

They will be asked to respond to a pre-set criteria.

This information will be compiled and forwarded to a judging panel made up of the 2020 Power 50 Top Ten and platinum sponsor, Durst.

Each of the five questions asked will be scored at 20%.

The person with the highest score wins.

 

Notes:

Once the judging for all categories has been completed, an external auditor will review the scores to ensure validity.

Supplier 50 recipients will be judged on the quality of the award submission based on their achievements over the last 12 months. There is no overall winner of the Supplier 50 – all recipients will be acknowledged in alphabetical order.

All results will be published in print in the December issue of ProPrint and announced at the ProPrint Awards function on Friday November 26 from 6.45pm at the Shangri-la Hotel in Sydney.
